Cultivating Tomorrow’s International Leaders

This Service Learning Trip is a transformative blend of community-based volunteering, cultural immersion, and personal development through travel. 2 Degrees facilitates opportunities for youth to evolve into global citizens, compassionate leaders and sustainability advocates through intercultural integration. We invite students to explore the Philippines with us to understand our environmental impact across the globe and inspire their sense of responsibility for a healthy planet.

Youth will experience a project from beginning to end. They will volunteer with a local registered NGO in the Philippines to do an ocean cleanup, then upcycle the plastic waste to build a home for a local family. With these opportunities, 2 Degrees Educators support students and their chaperones to explore real-world social and environmental challenges alongside locals.

Our experienced, certified Educators draw on teachable moments to reflect on their experiences on a global, local and individual level. We help empower students to realize they can make a difference by acknowledging their social-emotional states and bringing awareness to limiting beliefs throughout the trip. We welcome individuals to explore:

  • Their personal responsibility and leadership in addressing climate change

  • Group dynamics and interpersonal growth while away from their comforts

  • Areas of interest to envision their own initiatives for positive change

Place-based experiential activities help students understand the effects of climate change, while fostering critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills. It is important to us to create a supportive space for participants to process complex reflections and promote collaborative discussions to connect their learnings. Facilitated discussions will link their community service to gain empathy for others, the barriers that prevent communities from overcoming climate change and the insight to power dynamics in government and civic duties. While overseas, they will also have opportunities to practice their leadership skills and develop their confidence so they can return with actionable projects to promote sustainable practices at home and school.
